Dixieland, Traditional, or New Orleans Style, The Silver Leaf Jazz Band plays the music born in New Orleans! The Silver Leaf Jazz Band was formed in New Orleans, October, 25, 1992. Drawing on the tradition of its namesake from the heyday of jazz, for more than ten years the SLJB performed nightly at the Can-Can Jazz Cafe in the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Today leader Chris Tyle makes his home in Portland, Oregon, continuing the tradition of the SLJB in the Pacific Northwest, drawing on the best musical talent for his ensemble. With over 30 years of experience in the music business, Tyle is a multi-instrumentalist, playing trumpet/cornet, clarinet and drums. When not leading the SLJB, he can be found working with some of the best traditional jazz groups in the country and guesting with groups in Europe. Tyle has recorded over 50 CDs with a myriad of ensembles including those by the SLJB. In 1993, the Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD gave the SLJB's CD "New Orleans Wiggle" its highest rating, four stars and a special "crown." In 2001 a track from Tyle's CD "The Smiler" was featured in the first episode of Ken Burns' PBS series, Jazz. Here is just some of the critical acclaim the band has received...
